We made a discovery last weekCamp CrunchLabbers are a mischievous lot! You pulled out all the stops for your prank submissions. A deflated birthday cake, strangely colored almond milk, siblings getting jump scared in the backyard, and lots of parents subjected to wholesome shenanigans must have made for a surprising week for you and your families, to say the least. Congratulations to the challenge winners*–may the pranks be ever in your favor.

But now, it's time to get ready for a new week of summer camp fun. This is going to be a great one!

INTRODUCING CHALLENGE #4:

Introducing Challenge #4:

We all know what a new livestream means: a new Super Challenge*! We want to see your best trick shots, so catch that awesome shot on video.

Think of something that seems nearly impossible and requires significant skill to do - the harder it is, the more satisfying it is to accomplish! Go for gold on this challenge and choose for yourself the most difficult feat you can think of.

Capture your success in a Camp challenge video, and don't be afraid to show your failures too (well, maybe not all 1000 of them) because failure is part of thinking like an engineer. You might not make your trick shot on the first try or even the first ten tries. The important thing is to keep iterating and persevere until it’s done. You’ll improve with each try, learning from your missteps as you go. That's what thinking like an engineer is all about!

This challenge is a difficult one, so give it your all. STEM principles can enhance your trick shots, like using a catapult for awesome launches or a disc launcher for precision hits. As always, be safe and get a parent's permission before building.

Mark’s Foray into Trick Shots

With the recent launch of our
Hack Pack, we have robotics and coding on the brain! With all the technology we have today, we can create new machines that don’t use plastics, and use coding to make things digital rather than generating more single-use products which end up in the trash, or polluting the ocean.

Go ahead, you’ve got our permission to get lost in a daydream for a moment– imagine the perfect environmentally friendly robot.

  • What if there was a robot that turns plastic into gold?

  • Could an algorithm reduce contamination to improve composting?

  • Can we automate sorting trash from recycling?

All it takes is a good, creative idea and a little help to implement it to change the world around you.

#TeamSeas saw a problem – an estimated 11 millions tons of plastic entering the ocean every year. So Mark Rober and MrBeast teamed up to dream up a solution.

Trick shots are trickythat’s what makes them so cool. Sometimes you need a little help from those awesome STEM skills you've been building! Mark has several videos on his YouTube channel showing his awesome STEM-assisted trick shots. Which one is your favorite?

  • Superhuman Card Throwing Strength: Mark builds a Card Throwing Machine to get ludicrous power behind each card zipping through the air.

THE CARD THROWING MACHINE: A CLOSER LOOK

Any idea how the card throwing machine works? Mark consulted 3 Guiness World Record setter Rick Smith to establish a baseline measure: Mark had to beat Rick’s 72 yard distance and card speed of 92 miles per hour.

Rick’s card throwing can slice a single olive in half with the speed of his card throws while Mark’s machine can’t even nick a single one. Mark's machine does show immense strength, but it can’t replicate the practiced precision of Rick Smith, at least, not yet. When it’s a contest between Man versus Machine, you never know who will come out on top. At CrunchLabs, it’s all about having fun while you’re fine tuning your builds.

Dive into Mark’s awesome videos for some inspiration, and remember: the key is to have fun while coming up with your Camp CrunchLabs Trick Shots!

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Contest begins at 9:00 a.m. PT on 6/1/24 & ends 11:59 p.m. PT on 8/13/24; but, to be eligible to win Grand Prize, one must enter by 11:59 p.m. PT on 7/30/24. Open to legal residents of the 50 U.S. & D.C., who are 18+ and the parent or legal guardian of at least (1) child between 8-16 years of age. Grand Prize winner must travel 8/16/24-8/18/24. See Official Rules for full details including entry periods, entry requirements, prize descriptions and judging criteria. Void where prohibited.

This week, we’re exploring the fascinating world of forced perspective! Your challenge for Week 2 of summer camp is to create a forced perspective illusion that really wows us. Can you make your tallest friend look shorter than your shortest friend? Can you make your cat look taller than you? Get creative with placing objects closer and farther away to shoot a video using forced perspective that's got us doing double takes of disbelief. Use angles and distance to create optical illusions, making objects appear larger, smaller, closer, or farther away than they really are.

There will be four winners for each of the summer's six super challenges. Challenge winners will receive a challenge prize pack: a signed patch, a signed backpack, and a signed Phat Gus.

Then, from those winners, Mark will choose the grand prize winner who will be invited to the real-life CrunchLab and star in the 12th and final video with Mark Rober himself.

Hope you have a blast with this new challenge! We can't wait to see all of your awesome trick shots.
